A former royal chef has opened up about the heartwarming reason Princess Diana would have been proud of her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, despite their never-ending feud.

However, a close acquaintance of the late royal shared that their bitter rift would have left her “distraught.”

On what would have been Diana’s 65th birthday on July 1, William came under fire from fans after stepping out with Charles and Camilla for the Order of the Thistle service at Edinburgh’s St. Giles’ Cathedral.

Nearly three decades after her tragic death in a car accident, it appears some of the values Princess Diana instilled in her sons still live on today.

Although William and Harry are at loggerheads and are believed to have not spoken to each other since 2022, Darren McGrady, who served as the personal chef to Diana and her sons at Kensington Palace, has shared insight into how she would view both men today.

In a chat with InStyle, he said that despite the highly publicized rift between the brothers, Diana would be proud of the individuals they have become and the families they have built.

He further explained that she would have warmly welcomed their wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, and would be proud of William as he prepares to ascend the throne one day.

Kate And Meghan Remain Central To Royal Feud Talk

The former chef’s comments come as a complete 180 from publicly held beliefs and opinions, which mostly suggest that their wives played a major role in their estrangement.

Before Harry and Meghan dropped their royal roles in 2020 to relocate abroad, reports suggested the former “Suits” actress didn’t get along with Kate and even had a bitter disagreement over bridesmaid dresses that left them both crying “their eyes out.”

In his 2023 blockbuster memoir “Spare,” Harry alleged that his wife was reprimanded for telling Kate, who had just given birth to Prince Louis, that she “must have baby brains because of her hormones” during a minor squabble.

The Duke of Sussex also claimed that Kate wasn’t happy with Meghan over little things, such as when Meghan asked to borrow her lip gloss before a 2018 appearance.

“Kate, taken aback, went into her handbag and reluctantly pulled out a small tube,” Harry wrote. “Meg squeezed some onto her finger and applied it to her lips. Kate grimaced.”

Princess Diana Would Be ‘Thrilled To Pieces’ By William And Harry

Yet McGrady, in his remarks, noted that Diana’s perspective would have been rooted more in maternal love for them and in how they have remained present in their individual families.

“William has always known that he’s going to be king one day over Harry—William was the heir, Harry was the spare,” the chef said. “Princess Diana would have been thrilled to pieces now that both boys are happy, they’ve found a partner, and they’re happy within their relationships.”

Speaking of Kate and Meghan, McGrady said if Diana were alive, she would “be hugging those girls,” adding, “I just see her hugging [Princess] Charlotte. I think she’d be so proud of William, the way he has taken on these royal duties.”

He continued, “I know it sounds dramatic to say, but the way Princess Diana was bringing the children into the next century—she was able to say, ‘I know they’re royal children, but they’re normal children, too.’ It wasn’t the case of having to dress for dinner or sit at the table and be served formally by butlers.”

McGrady also described a typical Saturday night in the royal household, saying Diana would usually gather around the TV with the boys while eating dinner, which helped make things feel normal and easy for them as kids.

He added that they would usually have “roasted chicken, green vegetables, and healthy food,” but on Saturday nights, “the boys could have pizza, the boys could have hamburgers and fried chicken, and things like that. It was a special treat.”

“It was Diana’s way of showing them, you’re children too—and we see a lot of that with Kate, now, too,” McGrady told the news outlet.

Royal Expert Says Princess Diana Would Be ‘Distraught’ By The Feud

Former BBC correspondent Jennie Bond begged to differ, claiming Diana would have been “distraught” by the rift between William and Harry.

The royal expert, who had several face-to-face interviews with Diana, added that she would have gone out of her way to settle the feud.

“As we chatted, we were surrounded by photographs of William and Harry, and she was immensely proud of them,” she told The Mirror. “So, I’m sure she’d be distraught by the rift between them.”

“Diana would undoubtedly have done her very best to broker peace between her warring sons,” she continued. “If anyone could sort things out, it would have been Diana.”

William stepped out with his father, King Charles, and Queen Camilla for the Order of the Thistle service at St. Giles’ Cathedral in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland, on Wednesday, July 1, which would have been Diana’s 65th birthday.

According to PEOPLE, anti-monarchy protesters held placards asking, “What Did You Know?” at the royals while chanting “Not my King.”

William also came under massive fire from fans online, who mocked him for not celebrating his mother posthumously.
