Ooops! The hole is getting deeper for Alex Cooper‘s husband, Matt Kaplan!

Some staff at the podcaster’s company are making very bold allegations against her husband over his conduct towards employees, with the podcaster herself fully aware of it and carrying on.

Alex Cooper’s creative agency Unwell, which has an employee strength of about 100 staff, has reportedly been experiencing a large exodus of several high-level executives within the past year.

According to Vanity Fair, former workers and freelancers have raised concerns about the workplace culture operated at The Unwell Network. The difficult working system upheld in the company has Kaplan as the key figure behind it, no thanks to his very controversial management style.

Some anonymous sources claimed Kaplan’s management style left employees feeling intimidated as he would blow up over minor mistakes that usually resulted in emotional confrontations.

“Behind the scenes, there’s this man, her husband, running around wreaking havoc and making people cry, cower in fear,” the source stated.

There were also reports of inappropriate remarks and comments being made in the work environment, which crossed professional boundaries from time to time, and Cooper was not in the dark about this.

One former employee said Kaplan was invasive and flirtatious as he would ask questions about their sex lives, although she did not feel uncomfortable with his ways, it did make some people cry.

A source close to Cooper also vehemently disputed the report to US Weekly, claiming it was trying to go with a pre-conceived narrative and that no positive stories about employee experiences were included in the final version. Neither Cooper nor Kaplan has publicly responded to the allegations.

Long before the allegations about a toxic workplace culture struck at The Unwell Network, Cooper had described the network as a business she intentionally developed in collaboration with her husband.

During her appearance on the March episode of the “Burnouts” podcast, Cooper noted that the company was born as a result of their combined strength rather than starting from scratch.

At the time, Kaplan had already begun running his film and television business, and he used the opportunity of his relationship with Cooper to merge their visions into creating a podcasting and media giant.

Cooper explained that the idea behind their collab was to build an entertainment empire through a merger of Kaplan’s production and financial assets with her expertise in building podcasts and talent-based content. She explained that Unwell was an attempt to expand beyond one medium to many.

The podcaster further stated that an environment where women can be present was crucial to her vision for the company.

She revealed that her biggest lesson in creating a startup and watching the evolution of roles is the ability of team members to adapt, and that flexibility has been needed throughout her journey.

Cooper’s latest controversy has reportedly spilled over into her marriage, translating into immense pressure on her dynamics with Kaplan, her husband and business partner. However, as speculation over the company has ramped up, so have tensions behind the scenes, as noted by The Blast.

Sources shared that there have been growing concerns as Cooper’s personal life and professional life have become more intertwined, and that the lines have become increasingly blurred between marriage and business.

The insider also detailed changes in Kaplan’s behavior as time went on, explaining how their relationship evolved after the two began living together. Kaplan is also reportedly a key player in Cooper’s day-to-day business decisions, and sources stated it extends to a number of aspects of her work.

The conversation among insiders surrounding the couple has shifted from business success to questions about whether building an empire together may be bringing new challenges into their relationship.

In April, The Blast shared that a TikToker shared a video detailing her uncomfortable encounter with Kaplan during an interview for a director of events role at the company about a year and a half ago.

The user, identified as Courtney Babbin, recalled the final process in the interview being a one-on-one meeting with Kaplan, which was also where everything took a terrible turn.

Babbin revealed that the conversation quickly got personal, and she was surprised to be getting questions that had little to no connection to the position.

She added that Kaplan’s comments about the employees and the interview environment left her with even more questions about his leadership capacity and the workplace dynamics.

She continued that Kaplan ensured not to maintain eye contact with her throughout the interview and was busy fixing his hair in the mirror behind her. When the interview was done, Babbin noted that she tried contacting HR to detail her experience, but her calls were ignored.

However, the TikToker clarified that none of the encounters directly involved Cooper, as her interactions were limited only to Kaplan.

Inside Alex Cooper And Matt Kaplan’s Love Story

The podcaster, who is currently expecting her first child with Kaplan, according to an announcement on May 17, tied the knot with the producer on April 6, 2024. Cooper and her husband exchanged vows in Riviera Maya, Mexico, four years after they met via Zoom in 2020.

Kaplan was relatively out of the spotlight during the early years of their romance until she publicly announced their engagement in 2023 and did an unveiling. Cooper had described their partnership as one built on trust and shared ambition towards the future.

She has also spoken about the warm support she has received from Kaplan behind the scenes, including his respecting her decision not to become a mother yet, according to her confessions on a June 2025 episode of “Call Her Daddy.”

Cooper praised her husband for staying supportive through it all and proving to be an ideal partner who is optimistic about building a family with her in the future.

As for her new normal, Cooper revealed that while they paused on having a baby in 2024 to focus on career and personal growth, she now feels completely secure and confident for motherhood.
